Summary: The year is 1859 and the African slave trade has been illegal in the US for 50 years; still the practice continues. In response, the U.S. Navy assembled a small fleet of ships called the African Squadron, headed up by the USS Constellation, to interdict slave ships off the coast of Africa. Through first person accounts from the journals of officers and sailors on the famous ship, the USS Constellation, experience the difficulty and dangers of pursuing the stealthy vessels known as "slavers".
